  • Business Information A fuel of the future, hydrogen Future energy enabler for carbon-neutrality The global energy landscape is rapidly changing, and Ulsan Free Economic Zone Authority leading the way toward carbon neutrality fostering new strategic industries such as hydrogen, low-carbon energy, advanced chemicals & materials, and future mobility. The authority takes a leap to become a global energy hub. The city of Ulsan is well recognized as the industrial powerhouse of South Korea in shipbuilding, automobile and petrochemical industries, therefore, integrating the development of the energy industry. Taking advantage of its well-developed infrastructure and government support Ulsan is well-positioned to become the lead city in the sustainable energy industry. The UFEZ is comprised of three main areas with the testbed to demonstrate technological development for research and its well-developed infrastructure to grow new growth industries by adopting renewable energy-related policies. The Hydrogen Industry Base is functioning as a cluster for hydrogen related research and development with the research institutes that have set up base and a good living environment. The Elecdrogen Auto Valley is nurturing factories for manufacturing electric vehicles and hydrogen-fuelled electric vehicles and parts and supplies. The R&D Business valley features the future battery research center, the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology, and global conventions that elevate its R&D capacities. Achieving the vision of a carbon neutrality hub will require further expansion of districts to eight districts by 2030. The authority sets a vision to spur consistent growth of the local economy keeping up with large companies based in the city while guiding tenant companies to benefit from one-stop administrative services and providing with various incentives including the exemption of acquisition and property taxes and support for land purchase, facilities, employment and training. The UFEZ authority is now preparing for a new leap forward in the forefront of the energy industry of Korea.
